EDITING SUPPORT
How do I know if my essay reads well?
The application essays need to flow easily and answer the essay prompt. Coherent, concise, and grammatically correct writing will engage the reader faster and get your points across. The essay is a demonstration of your writing ability and provides evidence to the admissions committee that you are a viable, strong candidate.
MWM editing support is for students who:
Have already generated thoughtful and compelling content.
Have attempted to organize the basic structure of the essay and have completed at least a first draft.
Are competent writers but need someone to review grammar and composition.
End result: Students will submit grammatically correct and coherent essays.
ESSAY COACHING
"What do I say and where do I start?"
Essays give admission committees a dimension of the student not otherwise found in the application. They are great opportunities to tell personal stories, express your values, or share personal anecdotes. Furthermore, the essay demonstrates your ability to both write and manage the workload of the institution.
MWM essay coaching is for students who:
Are feeling challenged to generate content for their essays and are blocked in some way.
Need guidance on writing thoughtfully constructed essays.
Have promising writing skills but need further cultivation.
Have a time crunch and need intensive support to complete essays before the application deadline.
End result: The student will compose compelling and well-composed essays on time. The 1-on-1 sessions will dramatically impact the student's confidence with writing and expand their knowledge of themselves and what they truly value.
School Transition
"I got in, but can I do the work?"
Academic standards can vary from school to school. In most cases, the boarding or secondary school to which a student transfers will have more rigorous standards for writing across all subjects. Students who feel that their current writing skills aren't quite ready for the next level may benefit from simple, incremental practice ahead of starting at their new school.
School transition writing coaching is for students who:
Still need support with organizing their thoughts but are capable of generating content competently.
Need practice with constructing coherent and concise sentences.
Need reminders about using proper grammar.
Have the desire and ability to discover their writing voice but need practice summoning it more easily.
End result: Students will enter their new school with several months or more of writing practice and a solid knowledge of how to write with clarity. Writing support can continue into the new school year with extra sessions as needed.
